SOCIAL SERVICES

Chabad of Central Oregon "Chesed Program" is an extended family of compassionate social services that enriches the community and improves the lives of countless men, women and children of all religions, ethnicities and ages. Chabad has counseled families, fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless and protected the vulnerable.

At Chabad of Central Oregon, we are volunteers, partners, donors and friends who all believe in one thing—we can change things and we’re going to do it as a family. This is the heart of Chabad of Central Oregon: people touching people, reaching out to nurture lives filled with dignity, meaning and joy.

hospital visitations

Upon request, Rabbi Feldman visits Jewish patients at the local hospitals, whether affiliated or not, to cheer them up, recite a prayer, get the Hebrew name for the "Mi-Sheberach" to be recited in the synagogue, and offer any other assistance that might be needed.

Homebound / Retirement Home Visitations

Upon request, Rabbi Yitzchok and Mimi visit people who are homebound or in retirement homes in Central Oregon to bring joy and good memories from days gone by.

A prolonged visit to the hospital is a sobering experience: things taken for granted are suddenly scarce, and patients almost always find themselves reevaluating their life's priorities. There is often no better time for compassionate guidance and support, and the representatives of Chabad supply it in ample measure.

Chabad staff bring Challah or flowers before Shabbat, good cheer, holiday spirit and hope to the Jewish patients they visit in their rounds to area places of healing.

Visits to area correctional facilities serve as a vital link to the outside community for incarcerated Jewish inmates. Many of our brethren are using this very difficult and unfortunate experience as an opportunity to discover their roots, and turn over a new leaf, thanks to the encouragement and support of these visits.

Chabad seeks to bring life and spiritual movement to one's soul; to bring a sense of purpose into one's existence. By showing a person's connection with the entire Jewish people, with the Torah and with G‑d, it offers a glimmer of hope, helping the individual endure the days and the nights, the inner isolation.

The Rabbi will always be ready and prepared, lending a helping hand to the individual and his or her family, seeking out and focusing on the goodness within. The teachings of the Torah help a person become a healthy minded individual who knows that he or she has a vital part to play in the universe - even from the confines of a prison cell. This is also a preparation for eventual re-entry into society.
